Indications Benzonala
It is used to treat various types of epilepsy.
Helps to eliminate seizures of polymorphic or non-convulsive epilepsy (it is used in combination with other anticonvulsants - diphenin, as well as carbamazepine and hexamidine).
In addition, it is an integral component of the combined treatment of hemolytic pathology in newborns.
Pharmacokinetics
Benzonal undergoes rapid metabolism in the body, during which the substance phenobarbital is released, which has an anticonvulsant effect. It is weakly synthesized with plasma protein.
The substance is distributed in equal quantities within different tissues and organs. It passes through hematoparenchymatous barriers and penetrates into mother's milk. The process of component release is quite slow. Metabolism occurs with the help of microsomal enzymes. It has the ability to accumulate within the body. The half-life is 3-4 days.
Excretion is carried out by the kidneys; the substance is excreted both unchanged and in the form of decay products.
Dosing and administration
Benzonal is taken orally after meals. The course of therapy begins with a minimum single dose, with a gradual (every 2-3 days) increase until the required daily medicinal dose is reached. If stable compensation is observed, it is necessary to gradually reduce the dose until a single daily dose is obtained. If attacks return, it is necessary to restore the optimal daily dose.
The doctor prescribes the dosage sizes, taking into account the patient's health condition: the adult single dosage is 0.1-0.2 g, and the daily dosage is 0.8 g. The maximum adult dosages are: single - 0.3 g, daily - no more than 1 g. The therapeutic course lasts a long time and is continuous.
The daily dose for newborns is 5.9 mg/kg. The drug should be prescribed to infants with caution. For children under 3 years of age, the required number of tablets should be ground into powder, then dissolved in water and used as a suspension.
Children's dosage:
- single dose for 3-6 years old – 0.025-0.05 g (0.1-0.15 g of medicine must be taken per day);
- for 7-10 years old – 0.05-0.1 g (within 0.15-0.3 g of the drug per day);
- for 11-14 years old – 0.1 g (about 0.3-0.4 g of LS per day).
Maximum doses for children (at an older age): single dose – 0.15 g, daily dose – 0.45 g.
Use Benzonala during pregnancy
The medicine should not be prescribed during pregnancy (1st and 3rd trimester), as well as during lactation.
Contraindications
Among the contraindications:
- the presence of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
- diabetes mellitus;
- severe parenchymal liver diseases;
- renal pathologies in which their functional disorder is observed;
- decompensation in cardiac function;
- state of depression.

Interactions with other drugs
Benzobital potentiates the properties of anesthetics, painkillers, neuroleptics with hypnotics, alcoholic beverages, as well as tranquilizers and drugs for general anesthesia.
The drug also weakens the effect of anticoagulants with griseofulvin, tetracyclines, quinidine and paracetamol, as well as xanthines with glucocorticoids and calciferol with cardiac glycosides.
