Optive
Optive contains such elements as Na carmellose and glycerol, which have protective activity with respect to the epithelial layer of the cornea.
The medicinal substance increases the stability of the tear film function, and at the same time leads to an improvement in the processes of moisturizing the cornea of the eye during various conditions and diseases in which a decrease in the volume of tear fluid produced is observed.

Indications Optive
It is used to eliminate negative manifestations that arise in connection with the development of dry keratoconjunctivitis.

Pharmacodynamics
Carmellose element Na does not have therapeutic properties that have an effect through nerve endings. The drug acts physically - has a moisturizing effect and increases the stability of the eyes.
The component increases tear viscosity, and at the same time has a pseudo-elastic effect. Because carmellose Na is considered a polymer of ions and includes hydroxyl with carboxyl category, the chemical structure of the element is similar to mucin, which is inside the tear film; due to this, the substance demonstrates mucoadhesive activity. All this stimulates the prolongation of stable work of the eye and weakens the symptoms observed with a lack of tear fluid.
Dosing and administration
Optive drops should be instilled into the conjunctival sac, in portions of 1-2 drops.
Use Optive during pregnancy
Adequate testing of the drug in lactating or pregnant women has not been performed. Animal testing has not revealed any significant adverse effects on pregnancy or the condition of the mother and fetus.
The active ingredient of Optive is not absorbed from the mucous membranes, therefore it cannot be excreted during lactation.
Contraindications
Contraindicated for use in cases of severe intolerance to the medication.
Side effects Optive
Side effects include:
- dryness of the ocular mucosa;
- development of hyperemia or redness of the conjunctiva;
- a feeling of irritation in the eyes or the appearance of a “fog”;
- eye itching;
- the appearance of crusts on the edges of the eyelids;
- a feeling of discomfort when instilling the drug.
Post-marketing testing has revealed the development of the following adverse symptoms in patients who used the drug:
- swelling in the eyelid area;
- pain in the eyes;
- photosensitivity;
- sensation of a foreign object in the eye area;
- increased intensity of lacrimation.
Interactions with other drugs
To prevent the medication from being “washed out”, it is necessary to observe a minimum 5-minute break between the use of Optive and other ophthalmic drugs for local treatment.

Storage conditions
Optive must be stored at temperatures not exceeding 25°C.
Shelf life
Optive is approved for use for a period of 24 months from the date of manufacture of the therapeutic agent.
