Orgil
Orgil provides the development of a bactericidal and antiprotozoal effect.
The drug contains the active element ornidazole, which has DNA-tropic therapeutic activity. The drug is a derivative of 5-nitroimidazole.
The component ornidazole demonstrates a therapeutic effect against protozoan microbes (this includes Trichomonas with Leishmania, Giardia, dysenteric amoebae and Gardnerella with Balantidia), in addition to gram-positive and -negative microorganisms.
Indications Orgila
It is used for the treatment of giardiasis, amebiasis (its extraintestinal varieties and intestinal infections), and trichomoniasis.
Used to prevent the development of anaerobic infection in case of gynecological operations.

Pharmacodynamics
After taking ornidazole orally, the substance is fully and quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract (about 90%). Blood Cmax values are recorded after 3 hours. Intraplasmic synthesis with protein is insignificant (about 13%). The drug passes well into any fluids with tissues.
The accumulation coefficient in the case of taking the drug in courses in a 0.5 g portion or after 12 hours is 2.5. Metabolic processes are realized inside the liver; in this case, hydroxymethyl and α-hydroxymethyl metabolic components are formed, which have a weaker medicinal activity against anaerobes and vaginal trichomonas than the unchanged active element of the drug.
Excretion (mainly in the form of metabolic components) is realized with urine. The half-life is 13 hours.
Dosing and administration
The medication is taken after meals, washing down the tablets with plain water.
For trichomoniasis, take 1 tablet (0.5 g) 2 times a day for 5 days or 3 tablets (1500 mg) 1 time, at night. To achieve a more pronounced effect, you should additionally use vaginal suppositories. The woman's sexual partner must also undergo a course of treatment.
In case of giardiasis, take 3 tablets per day (1500 mg) for 1-2 days.
In case of amebiasis affecting the intestine, 3 tablets are used once a day for 3 days. In case of extraintestinal type of pathology, 1 tablet is used twice a day for 5-10 days.
To prevent the occurrence of infections caused by anaerobes after surgery, you can take 1-2 tablets of the drug 2 times a day for 3-4 days.
Use Orgila during pregnancy
It is prohibited to use Orgil during pregnancy.
Side effects Orgila
Side effects include:
- gastrointestinal dysfunction and nausea;
- dizziness, fatigue, tremor, drowsiness, loss of consciousness, as well as headaches, neuropathy, coordination disorder, convulsions and symptoms of intolerance.

Interactions with other drugs
The drug potentiates the activity of coumarin anticoagulants, as well as the muscle relaxant effect of vecuronium bromide.
Combination with other substances that are derivatives of 5-nitroimidazole leads to an increased likelihood of seizures similar to epileptic seizures, neuropathy, and depression.
The medicine cannot be combined with alcoholic beverages.
Administration with rifampicin or barbiturates reduces the half-life of ornidazole.
It is prohibited to use simultaneously with neurotoxic or hematotoxic substances.
Storage conditions
Orgil must be stored at temperatures no higher than 25°C.

Analogues
The analogs of the drug are Ornigil, Meradazole, Ornidazole and Meratin with Ornisid, and also Orzol, Tiberal and Ornigil with Ornivag 500.
