The antimicrobial drug Zimar is a fluoroquinolone drug. The active ingredient is gatifloxacin.

Indications Zimar

Zimar is used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis caused by sensitive microbes.

Release form

Zimar is a solution that is available in the form of eye drops, 0.3% 5 ml.

It has the appearance of a transparent liquid with a slight yellowish or greenish tint.

Pharmacodynamics

Zimar is active against various gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms. The antimicrobial action of the drug is to inhibit the enzymes of pathogenic microorganisms. DNA gyrase is a complex enzyme involved in the processes of replication, transcription and restoration of microbial DNA.

Zimar is active against staphylococci, streptococci, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella, Neucheria, Proteus, Chlamydia, Legionella, Mycoplasma, and Peptostreptococci.

Dosing and administration

Locally. The drug is instilled during waking hours.

On the 1st and 2nd day, instill 1 drop into the affected eye every 2 hours, up to 8 times a day. From the 3rd to the 7th day, instill 1 drop up to 4 times a day.

Use Zimar during pregnancy

Zimar is prohibited for use during pregnancy.

Contraindications

Contraindications to treatment with Zimar are:

  • hypersensitivity to drugs of the quinolone group;
  • children under 18 years of age;
  • the entire period of bearing a child and breastfeeding.

Side effects Zimar

The following clinical manifestations were detected during treatment with Zimar:

  • allergy in the form of edema, vesicular, bullous or papular rash;
  • dyspepsia, bloating, gastritis, mucosal ulcers, gastric bleeding;
  • headaches, dizziness, anxiety, irritability, sleep disturbances, tremors and numbness in the limbs, convulsions, panic attacks, changes in taste, hyperesthesia, photophobia;
  • increased or decreased heart rate, increased blood pressure, cyanosis;
  • difficulty breathing, pharyngitis;
  • urinary disorders, blood in the urine;
  • bone and joint pain, dry mouth, fever, dry skin and mucous membranes, metrorrhagia, hypoglycemia.

Overdose

Symptoms of a Zimar overdose include slow breathing, nausea, tremors, and cramps in the limbs.

Storage conditions

Zimar is stored in a dark place. The room temperature should not exceed +30°C. Freezing the medicine is prohibited.

Children should not be allowed near places where medicines are stored.

Shelf life

Zimar is approved for storage for two years.
